My biggest culture shock in the UK was the fact that I could do all my government-related paperwork online. Online?? Via the Interwebs???
Why is no one asking me to go to a 1960's building with 1960's infrastructure and bring *physical copies* of whatever it is I need to do, along with some prayers and a hope for the best?
I NEED to wait in a disorganised queue, darn it, a queue that is only a queue in principle; it's not a line, it's an amorphous blob, and every new addition to the blob requires the re-establishing of the proverbial queue, verbally first (''the lady in the black shirt came after the older gentleman, so I am before the young lady with the pram and then it's you'') and in the blob's collective mind second.
Keep your magically efficient and super convenient 'online chat' queues, United Kingdom. We were born from our father's skulls so we crave chaos and orange-coloured walls and vintage typefaces and shouting matches between impatient citizens and computers that currently belong in museums but are still somehow holding the entire country of Greece together.
