2022 to 2023: Evolving shifts in Europe and the challenges posed to the West

The new year offers an opportunity to take stock of the many changes in Europe over the last year - a year marked by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. George Pagoulatos, a professor of European politics and economy at the Athens University of Economics & Business and director general of the Hellenic Foundation for European & Foreign Policy (ELIAMEP), joins Thanos Davelis with the view from Athens on the evolving shifts in Europe over the last year and the challenges they pose for the West, including the ongoing war in Ukraine, the role played by increasingly bold revisionist and authoritarian states like China and Turkey, and a shift toward an anarchic global setting dominated by great power politics.
