Archbishop Elpidophoros causes uproar in the diaspora, Greece, and Cyprus

Earlier this week His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros, joined by UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, attended an event marking the opening of the Turkish House - or the Turkevi Center - in New York. Both leaders chose to attend the event, which was officiated by Turkish President Erdogan, despite having prior knowledge that Turkish Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar would participate at the event as “President” of the illegal “Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.” Their attendance, and particularly that of the Archbishop of the Greek Orthodox Church of America, has rightfully led to an uproar in both the Greek-American diaspora and in Greece and Cyprus.

Endy Zemenides, the Executive Director of HALC, and Greg Pappas, the publisher of The Pappas Post and Founder and President of the Greek America Foundation, join our host Thanos Davelis to discuss why this decision by Archbishop Elpidophoros is so problematic.
