Azerbaijan steps up aggression against Armenia; US Senate looks to hold Baku accountable

On Tuesday Armenia and Azerbaijan agreed to a Russia-brokered ceasefire at their border following the deadliest clashes since the war that took place last year in Nagorno-Karabakh, or Arstakh. Armenia’s foreign ministry said this attack is part of a broader Azerbaijani policy that began in May aimed at infiltrating key Armenian areas in the east and southeast. It’s been reported that a key issue here is that Azerbaijan’s President Aliyev wants to set up a corridor running through Armenian territory that would link Azerbaijan to Turkey, a move supported by Turkey’s President Erdogan. In the meantime, members of Congress have condemned Azerbaijan’s latest aggression, and the US Senate is considering three key amendments to the NDAA that would hold Azerbaijan and Turkey accountable.

Aram Hamparian, the Armenian National Committee of America’s Executive Director, joins The Greek Current to discuss the latest developments at the Armenia-Azerbaijan border, the response from the US, and the key bills that the Senate is considering.
