Deadly Aegean earthquake shakes Turkey and Greek islands

A deadly earthquake struck in the Aegean Sea between the Turkish coast and the Greek island of Samos. The quake was felt as far as Athens and Istanbul. Despite heightened tensions between the two countries, both Greek and Turkish leaders issued messages of solidarity, offering each other assistance in a move reminiscent of Greece and Turkey’s earthquake diplomacy in 1999. Journalist Alexia Tasouli joins us from Athens to give us an on the ground report and analysis of today’s events.

Alexia Tasouli is currently the diplomatic correspondent for OPEN TV in Greece, and previously worked as a journalist for 20 years at Greece’s MEGA news channel. She has covered all major political events in Athens throughout her career.
